Configuring the Windows Media Audio Export (WMA) Format to Convert from MP3, WAV, OGG, and WMA Formats

Huelix Audio Converter covers the full range of Windows Media Audio (version 9/9.1) formats. Windows Media Audio (WMA) consists of five distinct codecs.

  • Windows Media Audio 9/9.1 - Generic WMA codec applicable to a wide range of audio formats.

  • Windows Media Voice - This codec is suitable for recording voice (speech).

  • Windows Media Professional - This codec supports very high quality audio with high sampling frequencies. Suitable for recording rich content such as music.

  • Windows Media Lossless - This codec compresses without any loss of quality. This is ideal for archiving high quality audio which you can then process further as desired.

  • ACELP.NET - This codec is suitable for very low bitrate applications such as IVR systems etc. Suitable for voice and other low quality audio where small file sizes are important.

The WMA Settings configuration screen is shown below:

The Codec list box shows all available codecs that you can select. Selecting a codec displays all the formats supported by that particular codec in the Format list box. Also note that a brief description about the selected codec appears below the list boxes. You can select the desired format from this list box. Click OK when you are done.

Note: Some of the formats may not be available depending on the formats. This is especially true with 5.1 channel formats and using a hardware with a maximum of two channels (most commonplace).

Note: VBR formats provide better compression for a given bitrate by adjusting the bitrate continuously.
